La fumata
Il Red Knight Lonsdale ha una partenza molto speziata ed erbacea, su note di legno di cedro dall’effetto dry al palato e risulta pepatissimo al naso. Per fortuna arriva poi una discreta cremosità, con l’aggiunta di note di pane, stallatico e pelle che si aggiungono alle precedenti.
Si arrotonda e armonizza pur restando leggermente urticante al naso. Proprio il contrasto tra la carezza dolce e cremosa al sapore di nespole e la graffiante irruenza del pepe intriga e allo stesso tempo bilancia la struttura sensoriale. Non gioca molto con i sensi, se devo essere sincero, ma la base strutturale è piacevole, ben orchestrata e vellutata.
Quando la cremosità scompare anche la dolcezza si attenua e arriva caffè amaro che tende, se non si controllano le boccate, a sbilanciare la fumata. Permane comunque al palato un piacevolissimo strascico fruttato e speziato che poi nel finale intenso e affumicato si tramuta in caffè e cioccolato fondente, su un bel sottofondo speziato.
The Red Knight Lonsdale has a very spicy and herbaceous start, on notes of cedar wood with a dry effect on the palate and is very peppery on the nose. Luckily a fair creaminess then arrives, with the addition of notes of bread, manure and leather that are added to the previous ones.
It rounds and harmonizes while remaining slightly stinging on the nose. Exactly the contrast between the sweet and creamy caress (medlar’s flavor) and the scratchy impetuosity of pepper, is charming and at the same time balances the sensorial structure. It doesn’t play much with the senses, if I have to be honest, but the structural base is pleasant, well orchestrated and velvety.
When the creaminess disappears also the sweetness subsides and bitter coffee arrives which tends, if you don’t control the puffs, to unbalance the smoke. However, a very pleasant fruity and spicy aftertaste remains on the palate, which then turns into coffee and dark chocolate in the intense and smoked finish, on a nice spicy background.
